State Level Seminar on “Woman Rights in Haryana - A challenge “Was organized in Kumari Vidyawati Anand D.A.V College, Karnal

Today, a state level seminar sponsored by U.G.C was organized by mutual collaboration of Department of Geography and Women cell. Its central theme was Women Rights in Haryana – A Challenge.

On this occasion the chief guest was Dr. Pam Rajput (Member of high level committee of the Government of India on status of women in India) and the Guest of honour was Ms. Renu Phulia(Deputy Commissioner, Karnal). Both of them were welcomed by the utterance of Ved-mantras. Dr. Ashima Gakkhar (Organizing Secretary)  and   Ms. Santosh Bisla (Convener) had welcomed chief guest and guest of honour with high flown words and introduced their dignified and multi- dimensional personality. Ms. Renu Phulia had expressed her views that nation can never progress until and unless women became strong and determined. She high lighted her points by giving examples of well-settled and developed women like – Indira nui, Chanda Kochar , an I.A.S. topper – Shaina Aggarwal, etc. She exposed in detail all relaxations and reservations meant forwomen in varied sectors.

 

Dr. Pam Rajput put forth an important point that equalization of men-women rights was a concept which was raised in entire world. She had highlighted degrading women condition in Haryana state which is a curse. Women were not allowed to use their rights and represent themselves even in Panchayats. They were only stamp-pads. Infact, their husbands speak on their behalf. Women were denied of even common socio- economic rights.

 

Principal Ms. Rita Sehgal had advised women to dump out faded, old traditional conventions and march towards newer brighter world.

 

Dr. Amir Sultana (Prof. Centre for women studies, Chandigarh) was the chairperson of first session. Dr. Suman Gupta (Prof. Law Dept. K.U.K) had expressed her opinions on equalization of women right, women security, unstable male female sex-ratio, sexual harassment, dowry system, etc.

 

Dr. Nisha Garg (Reader Dept. of Distance Education, K.U.K) had put forth her views during second session on visibility of women   in political process and she had highlighted women status in country.

 

Speaker of third session was Dr. Anil Kumar Gugani (Head, Dept. of  In service Education Chandigarh). He spoke over declining sex- ratio in Haryana and its implications.

 

Speaker of Forth session was Dr. Amir Sultana (Asst. Prof., Centre for Women Studies, Chandigarh) who stressed over the consciousness of duties along with over rights.She explained in detail the women rights to Health.

 

Dr. Kushal Pal Singh(Prof Dyal Singh College ,Karnal) had spoken over in equal sex-ratio in very enthusiaslic words. He stressed on women rights in constitution.

 

Speaker of valedictory session was Dr. S.P. Kaushik (Chairperson ,Geography Department, K.U.K). She emphasized on declining sex –ratio and its drastic effect as well as advised women to be active and awaken for eradicating this curse from our country.

 

Apart from these, various eminent Prof. and Asst. Professors visited and presented their papers on issue" Women Rights in Haryana-A Challenge".
